Several different stories are told about a tall ghostly figure known as the Lange Man (translation: Tall Man), a figure reminiscent of the modern urban legend called "Slender Man." The tall man is known in several European countries (under different names), such as Germany and Belgium.
The people in Flanders knew him as a tall humanly shadow, hovering over the ground with closed legs, his neck stiff and his arms dangling down from his shoulders. Despite his creepy appearance, he followed nocturnal pedestrians in order to protect them.[1] He could also function as a Child Terror.[2]
The Dutch city of Maastricht in Limburg knows a story of a tall man who lives in basement holes and crawls out at night. The man was able to adjust his own size and frequently knocked on people's windows. If the large figure peeked through someone's curtains, this would supposedly foreshadow illness.[3]
